Has room for improvements

The food is good. No activities Director. Care staff, business manager, and housekeeping staff are acting as activities Director. Not many activities taking place. Facility cleanliness is hit or miss. No health and wellness Director. Staff are kind and mostly caring. Apartment sizes are good

It was not what I was expecting. I didn't know it was strictly dementia and alzheimers. My husband isn't anywhere near being ready for this type of facility.

It was 5 stars at first but when they lost a lot a staffing...it went to more like 3 stars. I know it takes a lot to take care of all the needs of so many people. We noticed changes in the cleanliness, lack of staff in the main area. Many times there may not be any staff at all in the main area.

Our family experience

They have hired a new Wellness Director who is still in training. Not sure when they start. The activities director seems good. She engages the residents and has a mix of activities and folks from the outside coming in. The staff are very kind and caring. The facility is older and I think needs a refurbishment. The food is ok. I understand from the cooks that they don't have a lot of freedom on what they prepare. Menu seems set by Brookdale Corporate. I think they should have more frequent housekeeping. I visited this facility

The lady who gave me the tour at the memory care unit of Brookdale Fort Myers The Colony showed me around the facility and said it would probably be a better fit for my wife. It had a central area where people congregated, while in the other ones, you could sort of get lost in them. The dining room was also easy to find. She was wonderful. I just loved her, and she couldn't have been any better. My wife would have fit in there very well. The only problem I had with them is that the only room they had was a sha…

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom had to move here because of severe dementia. Marlene, the manager, is top of the line, with her efficiency and follow up. Also Jessica, head of nurses, is also wonderful, paying attention to details! I am comfortable with knowing my mother is in good hands, as I have seen the staff at their job. Highly recommended The Colony!
