Brookdale Richland

Family member

Our Mother was at Brookdale for a year and a half. We had billing errors and lost payments (at corporate level), lack of communication (on several occasions and subjects) but the reason I'm writing this review, Mom's apartment was unspeakably filthy when we moved her stuff out. The toilet was stained dark brown, overflowing trash, multiple unopened, uneaten meals laying around so smelled like rotten food, urine drenched bed, so much dead flaked skin on the floor it was a slipping hazard. Staff seems very new and unaware of what’s going on in the building. I tried calling for days before finally just paying them a visit in person. They Don’t seem to know what was going on with the phones. The building is very large with very long narrow hallways, 2 wheelchairs or walkers unable to pass each other, not much lighting, and only 2 elevators. Doesn’t seem very accessible to wheelchair bound or walker bound unless you have an electric chair. Food was horrible, very bland. The bathrooms were destroyed and …

Brookdale Richland is situated close to the heart of Richland but just far enough out of the hustle a bustle, and just minutes away from shopping and Kadlec Hospital. The building has recently went through major renovations from new air conditioning, new carpets, furnishings ,plank flooring and an updated fire system. This building is full of friendly, active and caring people both residents, and staff.

My Observations

I'm disappointed in the lack of leadership there. Other areas for improvement: Timely attention to maintaining the building. Call buttons/bracelets/necklaces not working or not noticed when residents use them. Washing machines constantly broken, laundry getting lost, no one to drive the busses, bland food.

I love living at Brookdale Richland. They all respect our choices and preferences on care and dining. My apt is clean and always feel safe. The staff and other residents are amazing and friendly.

Quality care and communication!

Our mother was transferred here due to her "wandering" issues at a sibling facility. Being on Medicaid, her options were (and remain) severely limited. We had concerns about a "secure facility" and what that meant for mom. We met with the placement director and after a quick tour we were convinced. The staff here is visibly interested in their residents. ALL staff have been wonderful with communication. Having a parent with memory care issues/dementia is VERY trying.
