Caring home for mom

Our mom lived at Cedarhurst for the last 10 months of her life. The staff at Cedarhurst were kind, attentive, and very focused on her specific needs. We really appreciated the care she received. The facility is beautiful and kept very clean.

Friendly staff

The staff are very caring and responsive. They have an online communication tool that is updated daily listing all of the activities mom participates in. Her room is so much cleaner than where we had her previously.

Bottom line, you must always be an advocate and call attention to what your family member needs. Cleanliness of Facility:9 everywhere, but my husband’s room, which I give a 6. I just had a conversation about doing a more thorough clean weekly and especially after residents have bathroom issues. Poor communication between head of memory care and staff. After all that, I would recommend Cedarhurst, but just pay attention

Our family's experience

Like any senior living community, Cedarhurst can be understaffed at times. The staff is very friendly and are very willing to help. My mother likes the food. The apartment is a one bedroom. It is plenty big enough for her. The building is open and bright. It is kept up and clean. There are many activities for the residents. They have a movie theater. It would be nice if they posted what movie that was being shown. Was not pleased when there was a 9% increase in rent when the cost of living was a little over 2%

Not the right fit

My dad transferred there from another facility due to his behavior. My dad did not adjust to the move. Cedarhurst was a much larger facility. I feel my dad did not get as much one on one attention causing him to be depressed. I moved him home after just one month.

Memory care is poorly supervised and staffed. The AL side has lots of aides, but MC does not. More than once I was asked if I would be putting my Mother to bed because they only had 2 people for the 25 residents. The first week after moving Mom in, I was in the family room with my Mother who fell asleep in her chair. I witnessed a physical altercation between two residents. There was no one around. I had to get up and try to intervene. The head aide then called the man's daughter and told her that her Dad needed to…
