Discovery Village Clear Lake

I was looking for memory care for my father. This place was great to look at and I'd give it 5 stars for those looking at assisted living or for simply a retirement community. I had some real concerns about the memory care unit, however. The rooms were GREAT- even the so called "shared unit" but I was left questioning what happens to those with dementia and such when they simply decide to stay in their rooms and not participate. Experience with Discovery Village Clear Lake

For memory care, there were some hidden fees that I was not told about until after I signed the lease. Their brochure stated all costs were included, but that was not true. The facility is clean, food, care staff and care are good. The activities are poor. I hope this is helpful.

Great tour. Everyone on the property was very accommodating. Appreciate the allowing my brother and I to visit on short notice.

Nice Facility/Poor Management Experience

Activity staff 4 stars - Assisted Living misses out on scheduled events happening at Independent Living Food Quality definitely goes up and down. Kitchen servers are very attentive to table service. I had some issues that needed addressing with medical technicians. This was a constant monitoring. Resident concern of safety/security also became more apparent. Do not recommend

The fact that they did an assessment on my family member, said he'd be a good fit there, and then immediately 2nd day he was there insisted I hire a sitter for him in order to stay blindsided me and was extremely expensive on top of the fee for the facility. We spent several thousand dollars in sitter fees before we were able to figure out a different solution for him. The facility itself is nice, clean, good food, but they apparently don't have enough staff. Would not recommend.

No facility is perfect or cheap

The consignor (or however it is spelled) is the only staff person easily reached, and they don't get much training. One is very knowledgeable, but she works nights. The problems that come up needing maintenance work are handled promptly if the small staff has the knowledge and ability to fix them. That's almost everything apartment residents need.
