My advice to someone considering this community is: There needs to be more room for memory care residents to walk around.

My husband uses an electric wheelchair. The rooms' doors are narrow. There are no rooms on the first floor. In an emergency the elevators could only accommodate two wheelchairs at a time. We won't have him come to The Lexington.

Our family's experience

The room is large, recently renovated, clean, quiet. The activities are good, food is great. The only real issue I have is that I feel they are understaffed, especially in memory care. Only one person on duty at any given time. That means if one resident needs special assistance lasting more than a few minutes then everyone else is ignored. There isn't a good system for keeping track of clothing so everyone is wearing everyone else's clothes, but that doesn't bother me too much Overall, it's been a positive experie…

There was a definite adjustment period. It was not smooth sailing in the beginning. I figured out face-to-face meetings got things accomplished.

Recommended

After taking my mother to see five or so facilities, she chose The Lexington Assisted Living. After a year, my mother still likes it there, because of the people. They have a new Director who is implementing some nice changes to the facility. I would recommend The Lexington Assisted Living to others.

Our Experience

I would like to say first that The Lexington is our only experience with assisted living care, so I have nothing to compare it to. The staff are very friendly and always try to be helpful. Sometimes my parents get the wrong laundry back, or items go missing for awhile, not often. I've learned to put their apt# or last name on their stuff.
