They also have better, knowledgeable, and qualified help to keep an eye on people. It's privately owned, so it's a much better place than the corporate places that I've looked at. My mother-in-law moved to Alcoeur Gardens at Toms River. We like the fact that it's a very small, privately-owned facility. So, we feel that the care will be much better than in a larger facility. They seem to have a very good resident-to-staff ratio, and the staff seems to be very caring and very involved with the residents. We liked that the place seems to be kept super clean. My friend was a resident at Alcoeur Gardens at Toms River. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. They did not take good care of him. We were trying to get his possessions, but some of them were not found and they were not returned. Some of the staff were very nice, but they were understaffed. I asked who was in charge of my friend, and they would tell me she was not there only because they didn't have anybody specifically taking care of him. Alcoeur was lovely and really the deciding factor was the difficult behavior management. I didn't feel completely confident that Alcoeur would be able/willing to handle it. They did state that they were willing to accept him, despite his history of aggression, but sadly it's not uncommon for families to be told that a facility will accept a combative patient, only to have them expelled within a month or two because their behaviors are more than the facility can tolerate. I went to Alcoeur Gardens at Toms River, and I got to meet the owner. She was very, very professional and very helpful. She told me when a bed becomes available there, that we could move my mother there. Right now, they're full. It would be more convenient for me. It's clean. The residents were appropriately dressed for the season. It was very nice. They have a parking area. We visited Alcoeur Gardens at Toms River. It seemed very good, but it seemed more for people that were more sociable than my father. They had a lot of activities. When you went in the room, there was so much going on, and my father would be very disoriented because there's so much noise going on in there. He would not appreciate that.
