I toured Alderman Oaks Retirement Center. I thought the food needed a little bit more attention, and the facility was not quite up to par with what I expected. I just met two of the staff. I wasn't comfortable with the way the meal was served or the meal itself.

Alderman Oaks Retirement Center was nice. It had a downtown location, but I don't think they offered laundry facilities in the room. They showed us studios and one-bedrooms. They had a library, games, and just the same things.

I like the location of Alderman Oaks Retirement Center. It was near the hospital and our physicians, so that was ideally located. You had the stores and other activities of Downtown Sarasota. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were as good as they could be. They had a gym, a salon, and a courtyard. It's near restaurants. It's near the shopping area of Downtown Sarasota.

Decide what's most important to you before picking a place. We liked Alderman Oaks because it has a family atmosphere, is small and homey. It is not corporate, not big and not glitzy. Decide if you want your loved one to stay in their own room or if it's okay that they move to a different floor when it's time for assisted living. We liked that our mom can be on the first floor so it's easy for her to take her dog out. The facility is not handicapped accessible after business hours however, and they have not been am…
