PositiveBrookdale Derby was a perfect environment for my dad.
My dad resided there for over four years until he passed . It was always a positive experience. The facility is well cared for and I loved the homey atmosphere. I can’t say enough good things about the staff, ALL of them. Everyone was so kind, patient and compassionate. They were also very accommodating, I loved that about the kitchen staff because dad could be a little fussy. They became family.

It is clean, with no smells of urine. Staff is friendly. My only "complaint" is that it a little more expensive than other places. With that being said you do tend to get what you pay for. They have water, and lemonade, or something similar available by the nurses station every day and they are offered a morning and afternoon snack.

Brookdale Derby is a little older because it's been around for a while. That would have been my first choice because my daughter and son live in Derby. If I was going to make a move to assisted living, that's where I would have preferred to move to. However, the disqualifier was primarily the size of the rooms, but everything else was very good and very nice. The person who showed us around and walked through the facilities was good. It's one level so it's easy access.

The Staff is excellent. They are caring and friendly. I feel like my mother is well taken care of. The activities are okay but I think more thought could be put into them. My mom doesn't like participating in many of them. I would and have recommended Brookdale to others.

They struggle to keep good employees. The facility is pretty clean. There are a few times I could smell a strong urine smell when walking by the laundry room. I wished we had placed my parents there earlier when they were more independent.

The tour I had at Brookdale Derby was a very, very pleasant experience. The person was very knowledgeable. It was a complete presentation. We were at the conference table asking questions. I didn't get a chance to see a room. I just ended up not being quite the right time to do that, but I was very, very impressed with the facility. It was a good visit. The grounds were very good.
