Administration is a mess

I’m moving my mom out of Brooking Park at the end of the month after they announced a 34% increase to the daily rate—making the cost completely unaffordable for our family. When I notified the director of our plans to leave, his only response was, “Thanks for letting me know.” No acknowledgment, no concern, no courtesy message after nearly eight months of my mom living there. I never heard from staff either, which unfortunately sums up the level of engagement we’ve experienced. The administration is a revolving d…

I visited this facility

I would have to say that Brooking Park's apartments were looking really worn out. They were serving lunch at that time, and the food looked perfectly fine, but we did not eat any of it. The person who gave us the tour was new. We had some questions that she really could not answer. It seemed like she was very caring and knowledgeable, but she may not be as knowledgeable as she needed to be about Brooking Park. Brooking Park needs a facelift. Everything looks worn out. I think there were workmen there doing som…

Rooms are nice and food is good. But the nursing staff is terrible. They will telling all kinds of nice things to get you in the door. We put my mother in for 24 hours and removed her. We did not feel it was safe. She broke her leg and need rehab for 2 weeks. First night, she needed assistance to get out of bed and go to bathroom. She buzzed the nurse and no one came. Called my brother after 15 mins and he called the front desk no one answered. She got out of bed and used a walker for only the second time since bro…

Mom is in the memory care wing at Brooking Park. It's a very pretty place, but the good stops there. It is dehumanizing. They leave my mother in her room to rot. They make the rounds and if this person hasn't been changed in a few hours, then they'll go ahead and go in and change them. They don't even bother to get her up and go to the toilet. The food is served on a Styrofoam plate just slopped on there. There are choices and I'm supposed to fill out menus every week for every meal and I d…

My mother was in the Skilled Nursing section of Brooking Park and while she liked the food, that was the only positive part of her experience while living there. As her daughter and advocate, I have not encountered such unfriendly and uncaring staff with the exception of one nurse and one tech. The lack of response when my mom would press her call button to receive help to get to the bathroom was totally unacceptable. On two occasions when I visited her I found her sitting on the toilet after she was told "I&a…

Brooking Park was a nice facility. It was clean and up to date. The staff was nice, but not particularly helpful because when I went to pick my sister up (they knew what day I was going to pick her up), they didn't have any of the paperwork ready for her release. I called ahead and told them and asked, "What time can I pick her up?" They said anytime. So, I told them I would be there in an hour to an hour and a half, but even with all of this, they still did not have the paperwork ready. So, I was wa…
