My husband spent his last six weeks at Elm Manor. He was suffering from late stage Alzheimer's. He received excellent care including Physical Therapy and Speech Therapy. The staff took the time to explain how this disease was affecting his ability to swallow and the tole it was taking on the rest of his body. He became completely bed-ridden but the staff kept him clean and dry; they changed his position often to avoid bed sores (he never had any). The rooms are outdated and crowded with 2 patients in every room. The staff is under trained and there is not enough staff for all the patients. In a word: neglect. My family member had to go from Elm Manor to the emergency room by ambulance (that I had to call) for severe dehydration. This was after weeks of advocating for tests/more care following a period of significant health decline. Nursing staff administers meds and that is it. Do not trust them with your loved one.

My fiancé had a stroke and the occupational and physical therapist said “ I think this is as far as we think we can get” I fight and said “ as long as he is here, you will work with him, no matter how much push back he gives you!” The neurologist told us he has up to two years to get better. I suggest you advocate for your loved ones, they can’t do it for themselves! Trust me, I raise hell!
