Heritage Woods of Gurnee

My mom has made friends and worked thru not being independent anyore

She likes living in her apartment at heritage Woods. The staff helps my mom every day. She is grateful for the nursing staff as they help her when she needs it. She has adjusted quite well to not living on her own.

No Assistance in Assited Living!

A funny thing happened on move in day–another group was moving their loved one out. A man with this group sourly stated to us as they exited the place, “good luck!” Deductive reasoning indicated this family may not have had a happy time with this facility. This review is being written in fall of 2023 not even a full year after. I visited this facility

Heritage Woods of Gurnee seems like a nice place. I completed an application and went in to have my nursing evaluation. It wasn't until then that the nurse asked me how old I was, and at the time I was 63, and she said, 'Oh, we can't have anybody under 65.' So that was the end of that. They took me a long way into the process before they told me that. I have since learned that if a person has a physical disability, they're exempted from the 65-year age rule. The community is decent for the price. The staff were great to work with during the tour. The community was clean.

I visited this facility

Heritage Woods of Gurnee is a newer building, and the rooms were a bit large. I just looked at the studio, I didn't see anything else. It wasn't quite running yet, so it wasn't that homey, but it's actually my second choice for my mother. They have a lot of activities. In the warmer weather they cook hamburgers and hotdogs once a week, and they have a fire pit where they roast marshmallows for s'mores. They had the Girl Scouts come in pre-COVID and do some baking with some of the residents.…

Improvements needed

The facility is disorganized with the whole billing piece and they do not have a good payment system. They never give my loved one invoices and I would call to figure it out and it is hard to get a hold of anyone. During covid there has not been any activities to keep the residents busy so they are just sitting in their rooms. My loved one tries to make the best of it, but we have not been pleased.
