My parents have recently become part of this community. As a family member I am pleased with the overall appearance and atmosphere of Independence Village in Ankeny, IA. The facility is bright, open and filled with natural light, giving it a warm, welcoming feeling. It is clean and well maintained, and the atmosphere feels comfortable and homey. I took a tour of Independence Village while looking for an assisted living facility for my mom. It is very nice and everyone was so friendly. I would feel very comfortable having my mom live there as they had many resources available for every day care and medical care. When I toured the person I spoke with really tried to get to know me and learn all she could about my mom. She made a stressful process less scary.

It wasn't a great experience. He didn't take not need to be in memory care, his physician even said he didn't. They refused to move him out. I'm sure because they were making [removed] a month from him. He was far too high functioning to be stuck in there all day. We would go multiple times a week and each time all the staff were just sitting around in a group talking to each other instead of doing things to actually keep the residents occupied.

PositiveIndependence in Ankeny Has Delivered Better Than Expected And It's Home
The staff is amazing & my mom has been wonderfully cared for. She says the food is hit or miss but there has been a few chefs since she got there. The cleanliness is off the charts in fact my mom just got moved into a newly remodeled apartment that is stunning. The staff is very friendly & helpful. The only downside is there has been a lot of turnover but I feel like that happens at all facilities.
