PositiveEasing the Heart Break of finding Memory Care for my husband of 53 years.
My son and I had a full day of visiting Care Facilities. We saw a variety of sites. I registered my husband for one site. On the way home, my son asked that we re-visit one we had seen that day. A Place for Mom arranged an appointment for the next day. We visited, canceled the one from the previous day, and registered. We've been very happy with our choice.

Staff are friendly, responsive, and competent, though perhaps understaffed (though they seem to manage their stress well). Group activities in the morning and afternoon activities are wonderful with great facilitators. Food is appropriate to the needs of the residents. Overall cleanliness is great, though there may be periodic oversights in resident rooms on days/shifts that are understaffed. The room sizes are wonderful—single and larger shared rooms. PositiveResidents were going into the activity room fifteen and twenty minutes early. They seemed to be excited about the planned event. The facility was clean from the floors to the windows, and the tables to the chairs.

The staff truly cares about the residents, and gently redirect residents when they become confused or agitated. The residents dine in a homey atmosphere within their designated cottages and are served family style. Activities are twice daily and include travelogues, Wheel of Fortune, Bingo, music, and movies. The rooms are private .

We lost money by signing up with Summerfield but then needing to change to a closer facility. They said we signed and we were not refunded thousands of dollars. He never even moved in to the room. I still can't believe it. It was an extremely emotional time and we felt pressure to sign quickly. It may have been in writing, but it still seems highly unethical.
