PositiveIn her time at University Place, my mother has experienced Independent Living, the skilled nursing Wellness Center, and Memory Care. All of the staff I have met along the way have been exceptionally kind, caring, and competent. Jeannie, the marketing agent, was patient and informative when we (my husband and I) first met her, total newbies to the whole world of residential care facilities. She explained how finances, etc. worked, and kept in touch throughout the waitlist period. When Mom was accepted into Independe…

CriticalMy husband did not have a good experience here. Sent there from hospital for therapy. Did not even have a walker in his room until I asked the next day for one. He didn't receive help going to bed that night or getting to restroom. I told them he needed a shower and was told that is only certain days. I gave him a shower myself after receiving a walker. The second morning he fell in restroom and I took him home that day. Had him down as independent living. A person with parkinsons and dememtia is not INDEPENDE…

CriticalWhile I have heard good things about independent living at University Place, I cannot recommend Memory Support. My husband was there for over 2 years. During this time, there were numerous changes. It took almost 2 years to find an activity director. Administrative changes occurred that removed the Director of Nursing from the immediate chain of command. CNA staff changed frequently. As my husband's dementia progressed, it became clear another facility was needed. There are better care facilities for those with Alz…

CriticalUniversity Place is a Continuous Care Community. The Memory Care unit was added to assisted living by taking out 2 apartments to make a common room. While other units at University Place (Independent Living, Assisted Living, Healthcare) offer lovely living area and dining spaces, the common area for Memory Care is more institutional. While one wall has a TV, fireplace and bookshelves, there is not enough room for easy chairs. There is only room for tables for dining. Because Memory Care is part of Assisted Living, …

CriticalWhile other levels of care and independent living may be fine, Memory support at University Place is lacking. After 27 months in the Memory Support unit at University Place, I have moved my husband to a Trilogy facility where the care is SO much better! While the "Gold" level of care is part of Memory Support, families need to monitor, and help with, hygiene, laundry and housekeeping. The facility itself is more spartan as it was an assisted living floor. Two apartments were removed to make a common room and kitche…

CriticalI am a resident of University Place. This is the only senior living place I've been in, and it's fine for what it is. I certainly have my druthers. If I could design a place from scratch, there are several things I would put into it. A swimming pool would be a big plus but we do not have one here. I'm in a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment, and that is lovely. The employees and the dining staff that we have are superb. They're wonderful, caring, and helpful. I don't know where they pull from …
