CriticalMy wife and I lived in Carlsbad By the Sea. It was pretty good up until the time we left. We're independent living. The in-house doctor there with the nurse decided that my wife had dementia, and that she had to move out. Of course, I wouldn't let her move out without me so that's why we left. Basically, they threw us out. You really have to be careful. If you or the wife is even close to having dementia or needing special memory care, they're going to toss you out. When we first moved in, the f…

PositiveI toured Carlsbad by the sea and it was my favorite. The food is excellent, its just a lovely place, and its right by the ocean. I even signed up for it, but I backed out, because it was very expensive. It had everything. They have an outdoor and indoor pool, a staff member makes an exercise plan for each resident, they have balanced classes and strength classes, and they had a minister who comes every week for a talk. They have a salad bar, you can always have a filet mignon, and a salmon, and they always have t…

PositiveCarlsbad by the Sea was not that high end. We did had a good meal there. We met the marketing staff, who were fine. The units were very nice. It's a much smaller facility, so they offered fewer services. There's a type A and a type B facility. One of them includes all of the services including nursing and assisted living, and in the other one, you have to pay extra for any extra services. It's right on the ocean, so that's very nice. The vast majority of the units don't look at the ocean, a…

PositiveCarlsbad By The Sea was beautiful. It was by the sea, which is nice and cool, so I could go outside. The grounds were beautiful, but the entrance fee was too expensive. The staff was fine. They didn't have studio apartments. They have 1-bedrooms with a living rooms and kitchens. They're like full-fledged apartments.

CriticalCarlsbad by the Sea was nice. We walked across the street to a clubhouse that was right on the ocean. You could look down at the beach and it was beautiful. They even have functions there. We saw a couple of rooms which were very nice. We had lunch with one of the sales director and that was very good. However, it didn't quite appeal to our particular needs and desires.

PositiveI was down at Carlsbad By The Sea. It was very nice, but the cost was quite high and beyond my friend's means. It was not as friendly and as personable as we found at the other community. Well, Carlsbad By The Sea was very well done. It was very nice and very accommodating. What interests my friend was the fact that they would take you out for a ride, they would take you to the store, and they would take you to your personal doctor. The dining area was excellent. It was very good.
