CriticalThis place is awful, for the love of God please don't send your love one here

PositiveMy mother has been in Concordia at Sumner for two years now. The facility is absolutely stunning. It's got a pool, a comprehensive library, and a tremendous number of programs. The food is quite good. Her room is large, 750 to 800 square feet, which is the largest of all of the other three facilities that I visited. Space-wise, it's the biggest and still at a level of affordability that's very competitive with the other places. They have massive amounts of clubs, card clubs, collector clubs, and happ…

PositiveMy mother was at Concordia at Sumner for short-term skilled nursing after she got out of the hospital. The facility was beautiful. Their skilled nursing room was larger than the assisted living over at the other facility, so it was fairly large. It was a very nice facility. They had some problems with staffing, though. The aides doubled as waitressing and cook staff in the dining hall. If anybody was in their room and needed an aide for anything, they had a two-hour wait because they were too busy helping with the …

CriticalThis facility looks beautiful both inside and out. It’s also usually very clean. There are a handful of sweet and compassionate employees who enjoy their jobs and fulfill the role with competence. Sadly there are enough employees who do otherwise and will literally ruin your loved one’s time here. The lack of initiative and effort has poorly impacted my grandmother’s health. At 95 and a stroke victim she was expected to do much more than she should have which resulted in three falls. We hired an outside resource to…

CriticalMy husband I were in this facility about 20 minutes. After getting checked in we met with the Marketing person. After a few minutes, she informed us that my husband and I would not be able to be at Concordia because we were a same sex couple, which is not allowed by their Lutheran Missouri Synod Board. The lady was most apologetic and embarrassed to have to tell us this. However, it was very professional of her to tell us upfront before we toured the place.

PositiveI went to Concordia at Sumner. I took a friend with me, and the minute we went in she turned to me and she said, "If you move here, I'm never coming to visit you." It's too overwhelming, I mean, it looks like they want to be an English country manor set out in an Ohio urban area. It was all very nice and posh, but it just wasn't me. It was also that you had to pay one hundred and fifteen thousand dollars to get in and they'll give part of it back to you if you leave soon. But then they…
