Elizabeth House was nice, but it didn't have the family feeling that I got with the other place. I wasn't pleased with it. I felt like there were too many people there. It didn't look like there was much to do because a lot of the residents were just sitting around, and they looked a little bored. I didn't want my sister to get lost in the crowd. My sister is in an assisted living facility at Elizabeth House in Glen Allen. Recently, she had an earache, and she couldn't get anybody there to help her with that. I called and asked when the doctor would come in to visit, and they told me it's once a week on Wednesday, or something like that, but she never did get to see the doctor. Her room is okay. It's bare bones, but it's good. The facility is probably average. My sister is being served two or three meals a day, but she hates their food. …

Our family's experience

Although it is a self pay facility, we love the fact that the rate is flat and never changes from $[removed] per month. The facility itself is wonderful. They serve 3 meals a day in the cafeteria, or you can have your meal brought to your room. They also do your laundry, handle all medications, and have an in-house doctor , as well as a salon for the ladies. The staff, like most places, has room for improvement...but is definitely better than many places I've seen.

I think the lady told me Elizabeth House was built in 1969, and it still looked like it was 1969. Everything was outdated. The carpet was worn, too. It didn't look like it had physically been maintained. You could share a room, and I believe they have a microwave in the room. They had an outdoor space, but it was very small. The staff who gave the tour was very nice. She even did a follow-up. I didn't get a chance to speak to her, but she did do a fine job. They serve three meals at that place. I didn&apo…

We toured Elizabeth House. I like the fact that they have a smaller number of residents, at least currently. The place was clean. They seemed to have many activities for the residents, and they were able to utilize them easily. It's in a convenient location for our extended family to visit. The staff was friendly. It's a little bit old, but it had well-kept grounds. The inside was clean and neat. I thought the rooms were a good size. It felt like a college dormitory.

Elizabeth House didn't have much to offer. They did not even have an alert button, which was hugely important for my mom. That was my main concern more than anything. It's a very tiny place. It was not well taken care of, and it needed a lot of updating. But the staff who gave the tour was very nice.
