Starling at San Jose has been a deeply disappointing experience overall. Many of the issues residents complain about seem to be ignored rather than addressed. Items are frequently stolen from residents’ rooms (at least three recent cases that I know personally) and when they raise concern, their complaints are brushed under the rug along with everything else wrong with this place. , The People were wonderful, the place is beautiful, but the care fell short!

We were paying for Level 4 care for my Dad. I do not feel like we got that care. Had my mom not gone there every single day and helped my dad, I don't feel his needs would have been met properly. They were short-handed on staff many times. We loved Starling itself. We loved the people and know many assisted living facilities face the same issues that we found at Starling.

Studio rooms are roomy and perfect for respite or even long-term stays. The facility is clean and maintained. The staff at all levels are amazing! Friendly, helpful, responsive, and professional. Had an amazing experience from initial contact with Amy, who answered all my questions and made me feel my family member would be well taken care of. Our family's Experience

I haven't really been there at meal times or during the day due to work. So that makes it hard to evaluate the food but my mom appears to be doing well, eating more than she ate at home, and is more engaged than before living there. Her color is better, she is happier and seems to join others more than in the beginning. If I could recommend anything, I think having them incorporate more activities that build cognition or skills vs more passive activities like watching TV

Would not recommend

When it comes to the friendliness of the staff, some were 1s, others 5s but mostly 3s. I moved Mom from Starling [date removed] Their staffing was inadequate for her needs. When I found my mother in bed with clothes on from the day before and she was ill, I knew the facility wasn't being managed well. I would not recommend Starling to anyone
