This review is only for the memory care unit. My father was in the unit for a year and a half. The unit is under staffed and overwhelmed. The ratio was sometimes 4 aids to 38 residents. They are completely unable to handle behaviors such as agitation or aggression, and they defer to sending the residents to the ER. Just to be clear, we told the staff during his intake of my father’s behaviors and they ASSURED us they could handle him. They said “this is what we do.” In addition, hundreds of dollars worth of clothin…

This review is only for the reflections/memory care unit. My father was in the unit for a year and a half. The unit is under staffed and completely overwhelmed, and cannot handle many behaviors associated with dementia. He was sent to the ER almost 10 times in that year and a half because of agitation and yelling/aggression. The staff was not trained in how to handle this common symptom of dementia, even though we were told when we signed up that they could. They do not bring the residents outside of the unit for a…

My father had advanced PSP and Alzheimer's. His hospice nurse recommended bed rails due to fall risk. The facility refused to allow them. Shortly after, my father suffered a fall that contributed to his passing. Separately, I filed complaints with the New York State Department of Health regarding care issues. The investigation substantiated my complaint and resulted in findings related to quality of care, including issues with responsiveness, timeliness of assistance, and overall resident care. After his death…

Review for The Bristal at Garden City

First of all world class food 3 times a day. Healthy and delicious. Then there are many activities available all day, some active some just movies. There are art activities b ND learning activities. The medical care is good. Not at all actives they may not be able to enjoy the daily schedule. Other wise it is an activity and enjoyable environment for anyone. I'd give it a five.
